Opening

The Cluj-Napoca Art Museum, a public institution which operates under the authority of the Cluj County Council, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Hungary in Cluj-Napoca and the Barabás Miklós Guild, invites you to the opening of the personal exhibition of the Kossuth Award-winning architect, Dévény Sándor. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. The exhibition can be visited until March 26, 2023.

Dévényi Sándor`s hometown of Pécs proved to be decisive in his life and work, which has been heavily influenced by the architecture workshop known as the "Pécs Group", as well as the architectural vision of the workshop's leader, Csete György, and its founder, Tibor Jankovics. Dévényi also considers Wright, Gaudí and Pilch Andor as role models. He considers Imre Makovecz, the creater of Hungarian organic architecture and the founder of the Hungarian Academy of Art, to be his master.

His work creates a bridge across time and space. He is a key personality of organic architecture, thus, his architecture adapts to the surrounding environment in terms of space, time and history. Because of this organic, holistic approach, his works are defined by timelessness. He has worked on urban rehabilitation, the restoration of monuments, the design of residential, office and public buildings, and the development of town planning plans as well.

The exhibition offers an insight into the extremely complex and multifaceted life`s work of Dévényi Sándor, laureate of the Kossuth and Ybl Miklós awards, who was also awarded the Artist of the Nation award (Hungary). He is a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and founding member of the Kós Károly Association. The Hungarian Academy of Arts has kindly made the panels showcased available for the exhibition.
