Journeys to Real and Imaginary Places. Arnold Gross Exhibition
The Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca invites the public to visit, between July 2 and July 20, 2025, the exhibition "Journeys to Real and Imaginary Places". The opening will take place on Wednesday, July 2, at 6 p.m.
On the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the birth of Arnold Gross (1929–2015), we present a selection of essential themes that cross his entire creation: from his parental home and garden in Turda, continuing with local landscapes and European cities, to the imaginary realms born from the artist's fantasy.
Gross creates an alternative reality, where each work is a window into unseen worlds, full of play, humor, and tender irony.
The central theme of his work is art itself – the condition of the artist. For Gross, creation was a way of escape from everyday life. His imagination penetrates both natural and urban landscapes, as an expression of an inner desire for escape and a belief that reality can be transformed through play, poetry, and celebration.
The present exhibition is the result of a selection from the archive of the Arnold Gross Gallery in Budapest, made by András Gross, curator, son of the artist and caretaker of his legacy. The exhibition texts were written based on the study signed by the art historian Emese Révész.
