Madarassy György Tamás – 39 + 1

The Cluj-Napoca Museum of Art, a cultural institution operating under the authority of the Cluj County Council, cordially invites the public to visit "39 + 1," an exhibition by Madarassy György Tamás, on view from July 15 to August 9, 2026. The exhibition will open on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Madarassy György Tamás was born in Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Romania, on August 25, 1947. He studied at the Ion Andreescu Institute of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca, where he attended the Department of Painting between 1968 and 1974 under the guidance of Professor Gábor Miklóssy. Between 1974 and 1988, he organized numerous solo exhibitions in Baia Mare and participated regularly in exhibitions throughout Romania and abroad. His works have been presented in cities including Bucharest (1977), Satu Mare (1980), Cluj-Napoca (1981), Budapest (2003), Nyíregyháza (1989, 2004, 2006), Sopron (1998), Kecskemét (1994), Heringen (1995), Braunfels (2002), Rovigo (1993), among many others. The three decades following his graduation marked a period of artistic maturity, professional recognition, and the consolidation of his distinctive visual language. During these years, he developed a highly personal mode of expression that established him as an important figure within the Central European contemporary art scene. From 1974 to 1978, Madarassy taught in Cavnic, and between 1978 and 1988 he was a painting instructor at the Textile Industry High School in Baia Mare. In 1988, he relocated to Hungary, where he served as a painting professor at the Secondary School of Arts in Nyíregyháza from 1990 to 2010. Between 2008 and 2010, he also held the position of Head of the Fine Arts Department at the same institution.
