Ligeti Festival Transylvania at the Art Museum

The Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca, public institution of county interest, which operates under the authority of the Cluj County Council, invites the public to visit, between May 26th – June 4th, 2023, exhibitions  ”Ligeti, Painter of Musical Worlds” and ”Ligeti Meets U.A.D.”, organised by Ligeti Festival Transylvania

Dreams and Phantasies; A Web of Voices; Electronic Music and its Aftermath; Invented Languages – Imaginary Stories; Chaos and Fractals – in Dialog with Science; Rhythmic Discoveries; Tuning & Mistuning; Synthetic Folklore; In Breughelland – all these facets of Ligeti’s fascinating music will be revealed at the exhibition entitled Ligeti – Painter of Musical Worlds. The event displays a unique collection of facsimiles and documents from the Paul Sacher Foundation, Basel, custodian of the manuscripts of the Transylvanian-born composer. 

In his composition, Ligeti constantly drew inspiration from painting, graphics and sculpture. Could also his music become a source of inspiration for the fine arts? A positive answer will be provided by the students of the University of Fine Arts and Design Cluj-Napoca, who will display their works in the exhibition Ligeti Meets UAD. The composer would be thrilled to see their works! Three prizes will be awarded: the UAD Jury prize; the organisers’ and the public’s prize, the latter based on the voting process.
