Opening

The Cluj-Napoca Art Museum (MACN), a public cultural institution operating under the authority of the Cluj County Council, is hosting, from June 28 to July 16, 2023, the exhibition “Graphics and Drawings”, an event that marks the return to the Cluj art museum of the Polish graphic artists Jacek Szewczyk and Chris Nowicki, who are also teachers at the Academy of Art in Wrocław. The opening will take place on Wednesday, 28 June 2023, at 17:00, in the presence of the two exhibiting artists and the initiator of the exhibitional project, PhD. Gabriela Rostaş, the host institution being represented by Professor Lucian Nastasă-Kovács, PhD, manager of MACN, together with the curator Alexandra Sârbu.

The event is supported by the Polish Institute in Bucharest.

The two Polish artists return to the exhibition landscape of the Cluj-Napoca Art Museum after an absence of 16 years, presenting to the art lovers a selection of graphic works and drawings made over the past years. With a rich artistic and academic activity, Jacek Szewczyk and Chris Nowicki are also well known among students and professors of the Graphic Art Department of UAD Cluj-Napoca, collaborating with them on various projects and inter-institutional exhibition exchanges. The present exhibition is itinerant, and will be on show from 20 July to 6 August 2023 in Timișoara, in the art gallery of the Interart TRIADE Foundation.

The exhibition of graphic works and drawings signed by Jacek Szewczyk consists of a series of creations made in different periods. These are mainly prints made by the etching technique and digitally printed drawings. The subjects represent more or less probable situations that happen in everyone's life.

A devoted mentor of the young generation of Polish printmakers studying at the Academy of Art in Wrocław, Chris Nowicki has throughout his career combined his passion for drawing and printmaking with his profession, which has become a way of life for him. About his creation, the graphic artist says that people don't always see the significance of his artistic work. Even if sometimes the image is not very complicated, there is always an important philosophical meaning behind it.
