Opening
Szabó Vilmos graduated from the University of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca at the department of monumental art, however, having no other works in this genre than those from the Pedagogical High School in Zalău: an al secco and a sgraffitto, as well as the one from the Didactic House in Cluj-Napoca. The exhibition organized at the Cluj Art Museum brings to the public several works from the period between 1977-2009. This exhibition aims not only to present to the public the artistic heritage of Szabó Vilmos but also his evolution as a plastic artist. During his life, he approached several styles and themes that were related not only to daily life in the present and past but also to thematic motifs specific to the Transylvanian space. Graphic or painting works are expressions of a dynamic spirit that is constantly searching for forms of expression that reproduce not only his inner world but also that of the surrounding space, through theme, shape and color.
Throughout his life Szabó Vilmos had participated in several personal and group exhibitions in Debrecen (1992,19995, 1996), Szentendre (1992), Saint Michel (1998), Tokio (1998), Bacău (1998), Győr (2001) , Arad (1997), Cluj (1975, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2005), Baia Mare (2002), Budapest (1991), etc. In 2013, a retrospective exhibition was organized in Bucharest within the Balassi Institute.
