The exhibition is curated by Kassandra Mihai, PhD student in visual studies at the same university.Meet My Eyes exhibition will be open between November 6 – 23, 2025, at the Art MuseumofCluj-Napoca.The official opening will take place on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 6:00 PM, in the museum’s temporary exhibition halls.

The exhibition is conceived as an invitation to encounter the gaze of artworks. Meet My Eyes explores the moment when the artist withdraws, and the artwork begins to exist on its own. Through a series of sculptural-installation pieces, the exhibition centers on the presence of the artistic object, questioning the boundary between creation and autonomy. Inspired by Alfred Gell’s theory of art as a social agent, the exhibition starts from the idea that artworks are not passive forms, but living presences that shift the focus from the artist’s body to the life of the work itself. The event will also feature an interactive artwork by Taisia Corbuț“When they all want a piece, what’s left of you?” - which invites the audience to interact and “help themselves” (freely) to a piece of the work, in a limited number.

“The gaze shifts from creator to creation. The artwork claims the presence of the artist.
The works look back at the viewer, carrying within them a strange vitality - a form of agency that often exceeds both the author and intention. The artist withdraws, and the object becomes present. It not only embodies Meaning; it acts - transforming space, creating presence, establishing affective, aesthetic, and symbolic connections. The gaze, in this case, translates into an exchange of existence: who looks at whom?” Kassandra Mihai (excerpt from the curatorial text)

We would also like to express our special thanks to all those involved in the successful realization of this event, without whom the exhibition would not have been possible in its current form: Professor Bogdan Iacob, Ana Cătuna(for exhibition documentation),David FidileșandSebastian Boca(first-year MA students in Contemporary Curatorial Practices at the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca), and our generous sponsors:The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca (USAMV Cluj-Napoca), “Hanzi Haus”, and“Crama Seniorilor.”
