The exhibition “Confluences. Artist-Teachers – Teacher-Artists”
According to curator Antonello Tolve, the exhibition “Confluences. Artist-Teachers – Teacher-Artists” represents “a reflection on work understood both as the education of future artists and as the creative practice of artist-teachers / teacher-artists, whose activity manifests itself through continuous confluences between reflective practices that transform the space of teaching into an open and constantly evolving territory”.
Beyond the “desk,” the artist assumes the role of teacher not as a rigid authority, but as an agent of openness and transformation. Through a gradual process of making conventions more flexible and shaping new rules of relating, he reorients the dynamics of communication and interaction, making visible the theoretical and practical resources of the artistic practice. Along this path, the artist comes to assume, de jure and de facto, the condition of a public intellectual and a researcher in the fullest sense of the term.
In the creative itinerary proposed by Antonello Tolve through this exhibition, one can recognize not only the styles or choices of professors active in sculpture and installation, design, graphic arts or painting, photography and video, restoration and conservation, pedagogy, glass, textiles, or ceramics, but also their quests, which sometimes preserve the purity of the medium, at other times overturn its internal principles, or create powerful polysemantic insertions.
