with a preface written by Vasile Grigore, Bolintin Vale: Editura Sud, 2021.

The Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca, a public cultural institution operating under the authority of the Cluj County Council, is pleased to invite you on Friday, March 10th, 2023, at the institution’s headquarters (Bánffy Palace, Unirii Square no. 30), starting at 05:00 p.m., to listen to the conference entitled “The legacy of Virgil Cioflec’s cultural personality (1874-1948): 75 years since the death of the art collector”, held by Luminița Cornea, teacher, writer, critic and literary historian, editor, member of the Writers’ Union of Romania, Brașov Branch.

On the occasion of the appearance of the volume “Virgil Cioflec. Biobibliographic contributions” (nominated for the prize of the Writers’ Union of Romania, Brașov Branch, for the year 2021), published by the Sud Publishing House in Bolintin Vale in the year 2021, under the signature of the researcher Luminița Cornea, with a preface written by Vasile Grigore, the cultural event, moderated by the museographer Alexandra Sârbu, will aim, through the generous theme addressed, to reveal the following aspects of interest: the Cioflec family from Transylvania and its important exponents: Dimitrie (1829-1891), teacher and folklorist, Remus (1880-1960?), bookseller and publisher, and Romulus (1882-1955), teacher and writer; the Transylvanian origin of Virgil Cioflec (1874-1948), writer, art critic, philanthropist and art collector, as well as highlighting the complexity of his cultural personality; his meritorious altruistic actions and genuine passion for visual arts, with an emphasis on the collection known as the “Pinacoteca Virgil Cioflec”, today the most valuable core of the Art Museum’s patrimony in Cluj-Napoca; unpublished fragments from correspondence letters; the emblematic friendships with the painters Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907) and Ștefan Luchian (1868-1916); his contribution as first editor of some specialty albums dedicated to the two great Romanian artists (Luchian, 1924; Grigorescu, 1925); an analytical look at the preface-studies from the two aformentioned publications, which reveal Virgil Cioflec as an empathetic writer and art critic.

The evocative conference will also enjoy the participation of some special guests: Mircea Popa, writer and literary historian, Vasile Grigore, manager of the Sud Publishing House, Gabriela Corodeanu, born Cioflec, and Bogdan Negrea, economist, member of the Cioflec family.

The conference will be held in Romanian.
