FINISHING OF THE EXHIBITION “In Memoriam Corneliu Baba (1906-1997)”

The Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca, a public cultural institution that operates under the authority of Cluj County Council, has the special pleasure to invite you on Thursday, February 2, 2023, starting at 1:00 p.m., to the finishing of the exhibition “In Memoriam Corneliu Baba (1906-1997)”, an event that marks the 25th anniversary of the death of the artist, one of the most prominent and influential personalities of Romanian visual art. 

The finishing of the exhibition is occasioned by the launch of the trilingual catalogue, entitled “In Memoriam Corneliu Baba”, published this year in RA Monitorul Oficial, with critical texts by Adina Rențea, Vladimir Bulat, Sebestyén György Székely, Mark Lammert and Andrei Pleșu. The translation of the Romanian texts into Hungarian and English was carried out by Portik Blénessy Ágota, Alexandra Tolescu and Francisc Howlett, anf the photographs and graphic design of the volume bear the signature of Marius Sabău.

The presentation of the catalog will be provided by the art historian Sebestyén György Székely, accredited expert, owner and director of the Quadro Gallery, while the host offices will be performed by the historian Lucian Nastasă-Kovács, manager of the Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca. 

The exhibition, which can still be viewed until February 5, 2023, inclusivelly, curated by the art historians Maria Muscalu Albani and Alexandra Sârbu, includes over 70 paintings and graphics from the period 1934-1992, which have never been publicly exhibited in Cluj-Napoca. The works of great significance from Corneliu Baba’s artistic contribution, come from the collection of the Art Museum in Cluj-Napoca, the artist’s collection, but the most of them belong to an important private collection.
