Cluj. Squares, towers, reveries. The Treasure City in postcards - 130 years

The Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca, a public cultural institution operating under the authority of the Cluj County Council, invites the public to visit, between August 16 and September 13, 2026, the exhibition "Cluj. Squares, towers, reveries. The Treasure City in postcards - 130 years". The opening will take place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, starting at 5:00 PM. Curators: Gál Zsófia and Vatány Bíborka.

The exhibition of postcards from the collections of Gergely Balázs and Bense Jenő is a continuation of the postcard exhibition presented in 2024, also within the framework of the Hungarian Cultural Days in Cluj, which evoked 125 years in the history of the Central Square of the city on the Someș. This year, the focus is on the entire city of Cluj-Napoca. The expanded exhibition presents the squares, streets, towers, representative buildings, historical monuments, and public artworks of Cluj over the course of 130 years. The postcards preserved since 1896 do not only trace the transformations, reconstructions, and modernizations of the city's appearance, but also offer a special selection of images that capture the daily life of bygone Cluj, as well as the evolution of the art of postcard making.

The old images of the city bring back familiar places in their former shapes before the viewers' eyes, make vanished details visible once again, and offer visitors the opportunity to compare the Cluj of yesterday with that of today.
