>> Organized in the preamble to honour the anniversary of “International Dance Day”, marked, annually, on April 29, the interdisciplinary conference “Ballet and Visual Arts: Synthesis, Form and Content” explores, in the vision of Simona Noja-Nebyla, “the common space between ballet and different forms of visual arts, analyzing them from historical, artistic, aesthetic and narrative perspectives. It is argued that the birth of classical ballet can be attributed to the discovery of perspective in painting, a detail less highlighted in public discourse. Thus, one identifies a common origin that constantly renews its force through similar processes of abstraction and materialization of ideas in expressive form.

Both ballet and painting or sculpture operate on a similar conceptual level, where the idea needs to be expressed through a message whose forms carry the meaning in the material. In visual arts, the idea takes shape in concrete forms, while in ballet, it manifests itself through movement. The creators in both fields use similar visual elements such as space, line, two- or three-dimensional form, proportion, alignment, and symmetry. The material in which their artistic creation comes to life differs; of all possible materials, the human body is the most sensitive and expressive.

Ballet and visual arts share the same aspirations and challenges, living through the aesthetic communication force of their own content, placed in its ideal form, in the right space and at the right time. This conference highlights not only the historical links between the two fields, but also the common creative processes that unite them, emphasizing the universality and temporality of artistic expression”.
