PIAZZOLLA-105. Argentinian Tango Concert – Piano and Bandoneon

The Cluj-Napoca Art Museum, a cultural institution operating under the authority of the Cluj County Council, invites you on 24 May, at 6:00 p.m., to PIAZZOLLA-105, an Argentinian tango recital dedicated to the great composer Astor Piazzolla and his remarkable compositional genius.

Astor Piazzolla revolutionized Argentinian tango music, taking this musical genre from Buenos Aires to the great concert halls of the world. The unmistakable sound of the bandoneon, together with the expressiveness of the piano, will create, for more than an hour, an atmosphere filled with emotion, sensitivity and intensity.

The recital is designed to highlight the bandoneon, the fascinating instrument that best expresses the spirit of Piazzolla’s music. The audience will have the opportunity to listen to famous works such as “Oblivion”, “Libertango” and “Adios Nonino”, as well as lesser-known pieces, including “Milonga sin palabras”, “Milonga del Angel” and “Prepárense”.

The recital will be performed by Irina Indrei and Robert Indrei, who have formed a couple both on stage and in everyday life for 11 years. With extensive stage experience, including more than 170 concerts in philharmonic halls across Romania and appearances at Argentinian tango festivals in Romania and abroad, the two artists bring the magic of Argentinian tango to a wider audience.

Irina Indrei is a PhD student at the “Gheorghe Dima” National Academy of Music in Cluj-Napoca, specializing in Argentinian tango for piano, and is also a pianist at the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca. Robert Indrei is the only Romanian bandoneon player performing in an Argentinian tango orchestra.

At the invitation of the Romanian Royal House, the two artists performed at Peleș Castle in 2024 and 2026. They are also the founders of the Cluj Tango Orchestra Association, the first Argentinian tango orchestra in Transylvania, which carries out its activity in partnership with the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca and under the auspices of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Romania.

Irina and Robert Indrei also perform in Vienna, Munich and at the annual Argentinian tango ball in Budapest. They are also invited soloists of the Satu Mare Philharmonic and the Brașov Philharmonic.

Argentinian tango is regarded as a universal phenomenon and is part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
